As the online Chapter depends solely on donations, Wikimedia CH has teamed up with heidi.com, the popular streetwear brand based in Neuchâtel, to support its activities in Switzerland: from 26th June, a special Wikipedia collection will be available online at heidi.com and 50% of its sales revenue will be donated to the Swiss branch of the Wikimedia Foundation.

A FIRST IN THE WORLD OF WIKIMEDIA MOVEMENT

This project – a first in the Wikimedia movement – reflects the BCorp label that was recently awarded to heidi.com, which commits the company to ensuring its activities have a positive impact on society. Crucially, the brand named after the alpine heroine receives no financial compensation for this initiative from Wikimedia CH.

SUPPORTING WIKIMEDIA SWITZERLAND

By sustaining Wikimedia Switzerland’s activities, heidi.com is supporting the creation of educational programmes in schools and museums, the development of Kiwix, an offline version of Wikipedia developed in Zurich, and the organisation of events such as the recent Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Earth, which aim to gather information about the country’s historical and natural sites.

COMMENTS…

“We are very pleased and proud to be working with Wikimedia CH. We share common values, such as open-mindedness and an international outlook”, stated Willy Fantin, cofounder of Heidi.com SA.

Patrick Kenel, President of Wikimedia CH, is keen to reiterate that Wikipedia will remain ad-free. He is delighted with this quintessentially Swiss merchandising for the free encyclopaedia, and adds: “I think it’s wonderful such a dynamic brand has decided to support projects that will benefit not only Swiss readers of the encyclopaedia, but those all over the world.”
